Contrary to what viewers might think or hope, Belfast was largely filmed on special locations. The sets were built in southeast London near Longcross Studios, according to amplify.nabshow.com. An unused school site was used to build the film’s school, hospital, and church. The Farnborough airfield was used to build several street scenes including the riot. The magical cinema scene was created in an airfield hanger and not in a real cinema. Principal photography of Belfast, the semi-autobiographical movie by director Kenneth Branagh, began in September 2020. The production was completed by October 2020.
