This iconic tree occupied a dramatic depression in the landscape and had garnered widespread attention as one of the most frequently captured subjects in the country's photography. Its alternative name, the "Robin Hood Tree," was a testament to its starring role in the movie. The tree had even clinched the prestigious 2016 England Tree of the Year title.
But tragedy struck in the early morning of Sept. 28, 2023 when this tree fell victim to heartbreaking vandalism and was sawed down.
