The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester, the maker of the famous firearm. It is renowned for its size and architectural curiosities. Sarah Winchester built it because she believed the ghosts of all the people killed by a Winchester rifle were haunting her and her family. The work on the house stopped when she died in 1922.
