The movie suggested that a bridge was on Long Island Sound but the production crew chose the bridges over the Cooper River because there were two of them, meaning that they could film the action that was happening on the Grace Memorial Bridge from the other one, the Silas N. Pearlman bridge. The Grace Memorial Bridge was a cantilever bridge in Charleston, South Carolina. It opened on August 8, 1929 and was built by the Cooper River Bridge Company. Shortridge Hardesty of Waddell & Hardesty, New York City designed the bridge. The Silas N. Pearman Bridge, was opened beside it in 1966 to relieve traffic. That bridge was named after a former state highway engineer and chief commissioner of the state transportation agency. Both bridges were replaced by the Arthur Ravenel Bridge in 2005. That bridge is a 2.5 mile long cable-stayed suspension bridge with two diamond-shaped towers, each 575 feet high. It connects Charleston and Mount Pleasant and is named after Charleston politician Arthur Ravenel who led the campaign for the bridge to be constructed over the Cooper River.
