Hovs Hallar is a nature reserve on the northern tip of the Bjäre Peninsula in the Swedish county of Skåne. It is located between the coastal towns of of Båstad and Torekov. The reserve is an area of geological interest and its impressive cliff faces are home to a variety of seabirds. During a ceremony on 20 October 2017, held in co-operation with the regional film fund Film and the municipality of Båstad, a special Treasure of European Film Culture emblem was inaugurated at the location by the European Film Academy.

When disillusioned Swedish knight Antonius Block returns home from the Crusades to find his country in the grips of the Black Death, he challenges Death to a chess match for his life.
