In 1898, prominent banker and coal operator Garrett B. Linderman bought a large land lot. After the existing cottages on the property were razed or moved from the site, G.B. Linderman built his mansion atop a hill overlooking Hay Harbor. The substantial residence was completed by 1899/1900. In February 1918, world famous opera star and recording artist Alma Gluck bought the house. Peter and Katie Bacille, today’s owners (2004), have recently completed a major restoration of the residence.

Based on the John Irving novel, this film chronicles the life of T S Garp, and his mother, Jenny. Whilst Garp sees himself as a "serious" writer, Jenny writes a feminist manifesto at an opportune time, and finds herself as a magnet for all manner of distressed women.
