Cathedral Cove (Te Whanganui-A-Hei) Marine Reserve covers an area of 840 hectares (2,100 acres). The area is very popular with tourists, and receives around 150,000 visitors per year. Cathedral Cove is a 45-minute walk from the coastal resort of Hahei on the Pacific Coast. A good way to visit the Cove is by boat tours into Te Whanganui A Hei Marine reserve, some of which are rated among New Zealand’s best boat trips. Cathedral Cove can be visited any time of the year. Visitors are at their peak during the kiwi summer holidays (December, January). It’s best to visit early in the morning or late afternoon.
