Constructed in 1910, the Stadthalle had been closed for years when it was discovered by Wes Anderson and his team. The production team transformed the old city hall into a dining room for the movie. To complete the set, Wes Anderson commissioned artist Michael Lenz to paint a large backdrop in the style of 19th-century landscape artist Caspar David Friedrich.
