“We chose Candelaria for a few reasons. It has a dynamic look—one that said traditional Colombia—that hasn't changed since the early '80s,” says Newman. “We also shot the scenes where we first met [DEA Agent Javier] Peña and [Colonel Horacio] Carrillo there. We found a bar we liked in a cool, slightly noir-ish enclave. It felt like the kind of place Peña would hang out.”
