Stokesay Court is a country house and estate in the parish of Onibury in Shropshire, England. Stokesay was one of the first homes in England that had integral electric light (installed in 1891). During the first World War the house was an Auxiliary Military Hospital and accommodation for evacuated students during the Second World War. Filming at Stokesay Court took five weeks, with a lot of restoration work required beforehand as the house had fallen into disrepair. The production design team spent seven weeks at the house, prior to filming, ensuring that the look and feel of the interiors and exteriors were correct to the 1930s time period the Ian McEwan book was set in.
