The bridge is part of Jackson Park, a 500-acre (2 km²) park located at 6401 South Stony Island Avenue in the Woodlawn community on the South Side in Chicago. It is named for the seventh President of the USA, Andrew Jackson. The parkland was first developed as the host site of the World's Columbian Exposition (Chicago World's Fair) in 1893, memorialized today by the Statue of The Republic.
