Most of the exterior filming was done here and preceded other filming. Unusually for the location, the weather was sunny and bright, whereas the director, Céline Sciamma, had expected grey weather, a la the Bronte sisters.The bright weather for the exteriors meant that the lighting for the interior shoots had to match. This required massive lighting rigs outside the windows of the Chateau de la Chapelle-Gauthier to mimic bright sunshine.
