Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is a United States Marine Corps installation. The airfield is named Foss Field after Joe Foss. The air station s best known as the former location of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (NFWS) and its TOPGUN training program. The legendary volleyball scene in the movie was shot on sand courts on the Miramar base, according to tripsavvy.com. The courts no longer exists, but they were located north of Barracks 298-300.
