The Apollo Theater is a legendary music hall in Harlem, New York City. A great number of famous artists performed in the theatre. Artists like Billie Holiday, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Ben E. King. The theatre has a capacity of 1,506. The Apollo Theater opened in 1914 as Hurtig & Seamon's New Burlesque Theater. It became the Apollo in 1934, when it was opened to black patrons – previously it had been a whites-only venue. It was originally designed by George Keister in the neo-Classical style. As of 2010, the Apollo Theater draws an estimated 1.3 million visitors annually.
