Lake Powell is a man-made reservoir on the Colorado River in Utah and Arizona. Approximately two million people visit this popular vacation spot every year. The reservoir is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, a one-armed American Civil War veteran who explored the river via three wooden boats in 1869. There is some discussion online if this is the right locations. When watching the movie, it does not look like Lake Powell because of the green hills surrounding the landing spot. The credits go to Jerry Garrett (please read the comments on his blog: https://jerrygarrett.wordpress.com/2013/10/04/gravity-filmed-in-lake-powell-arizona-not-exactly/)
