The Historic St. Paul Community Church is the heart of the Sugarland Forest Community established by freed slaves after emancipation. The original church, The Sugarland Forest Methodist Episcopal, was rebuilt as a community hall in 1930. The Historic Saint Paul Community Church received historical landmark status in 1996. While weekly services are no longer held, the Church does host funerals, weddings, homecomings, community events and guest church services. The crew transformed the protestant church into the catholic St. Anthony’s Church. They added some religious elements like the confessional boxes and the font for holy water.
