The town was home to Victoria's first registered gold discovery made by William Campbell in 1850. Campbell's announcement triggered a gold rush. It saw the town's population rising to well over 6,000 residents in the late 1880s. In 2016 1,728 people lived in Clunes according to a census.

SYNOPSIS
