Million Dollar Theater is one of the first movie palaces built in the United States. It opened in 1917 with the premiere of William S. Hart's The Silent Man. The theater was the first movie house built by Sid Grauman who was also responsible for Grauman's Egyptian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The theater served as a Spanish-language church for some time. As of 2006 it was empty. After a re-opeming in 2008 and another closure in 2012 the building was sold in 2017 to fashion startup CoBird.
