The IJmuiden low lighthouse in the background is a round, reddish-brown, cast-iron tower designed by Quirinus Harder and built between 1877 and 1878 by D.A. Schretlen & Co from Leiden. The tower has a height of 24 metres and, together with the high lighthouse of IJmuiden, forms a line of light which marks the IJ channel and the entrance to the port. The tower has five floors and 88 steps.
