The town hall of the 3rd district is located opposite the Square du Temple a park and a garden created in 1857. The town hall itself was built between 1864 and 1867, on the site of the ancient fortress also know as the Temple tower, which was demolished in 1808 as ordered by Napoleon Bonaparte. It owes its fame to the fact that it served as a jail for Louis XVI and the royal family from 1792 to 1795. The new town hall was designed by the architect Victor Calliat and completed by Eugène-Alexandre Chat. It has a Neo-Renaissance style.
