The movie starts with a shot of Phoenix, Arizona and leads the viewer through an open window on the fourth floor of an hotel where we meet Marion Crane and her lover Sam Loomis.
Barrister Place was known as the Jefferson Hotel when it opened to public fanfare on July 15, 1915. At that time it was the tallest building in the state of Arizona. In 2014 the building was sold to a company that was going to transform it into apartments and retail. In Phoenix 11 December is unofficially marked as 'Psycho Day' because Alfred Hitchcock used the city in the opening sequence of his masterpiece Psycho. December the 11th Is the date that appears in the opening scene. Hitchcock was not present in Phoenix during filming of the opening scene because he was working on the production in LA.
