The scene was filmed in the neighborhood in the northern part of Manhattan known as the Hamilton Heights. It is named after Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. He lived in the Hamilton Grange Mansion - or Hamilton Grange National Memorial - the last two years of his life. The memorial is very close to where the scene form West Side Story was filmed. Across the street is the location from another part of the same scene: the Puerto Rican gym where Bernardo trained, according to Harlem+Bespoke. But that gym is no longer there.
