The structure was originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. It was rebuilt in 1965. The most prominent building of the complex, is the open rotunda. It is a 162 feet (49 m) high. On the floor underneath the dome is a plaque for the Lucasfilm Foundation, the charity foundation by Star Wars creator George Lucas. The Palace of Fine Arts is only a 11 minute walk away from the offices of Lucasfilm in San Francisco.
