Next to the steps is the statue of Robert Clive after which the steps are named. Clive (29 September 1725 – 22 November 1774) was a Major-General. He was the first British Governor of the Bengal Presidency. The bronze statue was made by John Tweed. It was unveiled in 1912 and moved to its current location in 1916.
