This 1400-seat theatre was built in what was a quarry for Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun in 1693. It is one of the venues for the Salzburg Festival. In October 2015, a huge gala was held here to mark the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music.

SYNOPSIS
