The arc de triomphe du Carrousel is completed by Napoleon in 1809. The sculpture on top of the arch is a copy of the ‘Horses of San Marco’ located on the main gate of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. The original was taken to Paris by Napoleon in 1798 and returned to the Austrians who controlled Venice.
