Designed by engineers Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, two associates of Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built on the occasion of the 1889 World's Fair in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is 317 meters high to the top of the flagpole but depending on the ambient temperature, the tower can change 15 cm in height due to the expansion or contraction of the metal.
