The Royal Naval College, Greenwich, was a Royal Navy training establishment between 1873 and 1998, providing courses for naval officers. It was the home of the Royal Navy's staff college, which provided advanced training for officers. The magnificent Painted Hall is recognised as the greatest piece of decorative painting in England and has been described as the Sistine Chapel of the UK. It was originally intended as an dining hall for the naval pensioners who lived here at the Royal Hospital for Seamen. The Painted Hall reopened in 2019, following a two year long, award-winning conservation project and is now open for visits, tours and to hire.
