The Rijksmuseum offers an overview of Dutch art and history, including works by 17th-century Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Hals. The museum has been housed since 1885 in the Rijksmuseum building designed by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers. The various masterpieces are presented in the Gallery of Honour, a large hall in the museum's longitudinal axis. At the far end of this hall, the Night Watch Gallery houses the museum's most famous work, Rembrandt's Night Watch. The Rijksmuseum has the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings in the world. Almost every detail about Rembrandts painting The Nightwatch or De Nachtwacht told by Croome in the Rijksmuseum is accurate. Parts of the paining were cut off in the 16th century, because it did not fit into the room of the buyer.
