Palace of Fontainebleau or Château de Fontainebleau is located 55 kilometers (34 miles) southeast of the center of Paris. The medieval castle and subsequent palace served as a residence for the French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III. It became a national museum in 1927. The ballroom is located between the Oval Court and the gardens. It is one of the most remarkable rooms in the Château de Fontainebleau. It features pillars wrapped in oak panelling with fluted pilaster columns. The myths in the paintings were frescoed by Nicolo dell’Abbate.
