Galleria Umberto I is a historic shopping arcade located in Naples, Italy, directly across from the renowned San Carlo opera house. Constructed between 1887 and 1891, it was a key part of the city's risanamento initiative aimed at revitalizing Naples after a cholera epidemic. The gallery is named after King Umberto I of Italy and was designed by architect Emanuele Rocco, drawing inspiration from the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. The Galleria features a striking cross-shaped layout crowned by a magnificent glass dome supported by 16 metal ribs, creating a light-filled interior. Its four wings lead to various shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it not only a commercial hub but also a vibrant social space. The interior is adorned with intricate mosaics and classical sculptures, enhancing its architectural beauty.
