Clovelly is a historic, privately owned village on the north Devon coast, famous for its steep, cobbled main street and traditional architecture. Originally owned by William the Conqueror, it was gifted to his wife, Matilda of Flanders, and listed in the Domesday Book. The village has been associated with only a few families since the 13th century, including the Cary and Hamlyn families. It was transformed into a fishing village in the 16th century and is known for its harbour, quaint cottages, and lack of modern amenities like cars. You have to pay an admission fee to go to Clovelly.
