The Maison Internationale was built in 1936 under the supervision of American architect Jens Fredrick Larson and financed by a donation from American philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Junior. A mini-replica of the Château de Fontainebleau, it is the flagship of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris and occupies a central position on the campus.
