In 1765 citizens of Boston destroyed the British Stamp Act Office at what is now know as Liberty Square. The bronze statue on the square is known as the Hungarian Revolution Memorial. It was created by sculpturist Gyuri Hollosy. He wanted to pay tribute to Hungarian students and citizens that participated in the unsuccessful Hungarian Revolution of 1956. The statue was erected in 1986 bus was dismantled and stored for a couple of years until May 1989.
